Meal ideas for your little ones

Feeding babies and toddlers can be a challenge. They can be picky eaters, a food they enjoyed the day before may be the source of disgust the next which makes it difficult to know what to serve them. It's important to offer a variety of nutritious foods to support their growth and development, but finding meals that they will actually eat can be tricky. Here are some meal ideas for babies and toddlers that are both nutritious and tasty:

  1. Homemade purees: For babies just starting solids, homemade purees are a great option. They allow you to control the ingredients and ensure that your baby is getting a variety of nutrients. Some puree ideas include sweet potato and apple, broccoli and pear, and lentil and carrot.

  2. Soft fruits and vegetables: As babies get a little older and are able to handle more textured foods, you can start introducing soft fruits and vegetables. Avocado, ripe peaches and cooked carrots are all good options.

  3. Oatmeal or quinoa: Both oatmeal and quinoa are nutritious grains that can be easily mashed or pureed for babies. They can be mixed with a variety of pureed fruits or vegetables for added flavour and nutrition.

  4. Pasta with sauce: Pasta is an easy food that most toddlers enjoy. You can mix in some pureed vegetables or legumes to the sauce to add extra nutrition.

  5. Scrambled eggs: Scrambled eggs are a great source of protein and can be easily mashed or cut into small pieces for young eaters.

  6. Quesadillas: Quesadillas are a simple meal that can be made with just a few ingredients. You can use whole grain tortillas and fill them with shredded cheese, mashed beans, and diced vegetables.

  7. Mini pizzas: Toddlers love pizza, and it's easy to make a healthier version at home. Use whole grain pitas or English muffins as the base and top with tomato sauce, shredded cheese and your child's favourite vegetables.
